HTCC Web Feeds

Note: It's very easy to subscribe to Web feeds. It's even easier to unsubscribe. You don't need to agonize over which one of these two HTCC related feeds to pick. ;-)

Feed icon. The HTCC Episodic feed will notify you when new issues of our CyberCoyote newsletter are online. It also includes a few topical items that I write once in a while.

Notes and Topics includes all HTCC Episodic items, and adds topics you're likely to be interested in. It's also called Philip Spohn's shared items in Google Reader. ;-)

Basic ways to subscribe to the Web feeds

All major browsers have rudimentary feed-reading built in, and that may be all you need. You may want a more capable reader though. Come back here after you have installed it. :-)

There are three simple ways to subscribe to the Web feed for HTCC Episodic, or the one for Notes and Topics.

  1. If you're using Internet Explorer 7 or 8, select (click one of these links) HTCC Episodic or Notes and Topics. You'll see the contents of the feed you selected, and there will be a link at the top inviting you to "Subscribe to this feed." Click that link and let IE put the new "Favorite" in the "Feeds" folder. Now click the Favorites icon (orange star) at the left end of the IE taskbar and then click "HTCC Episodic" under the "Feeds" tab. You'll see the contents of of the feed again. The contents will be updated when new content is added, which is infrequent, but you can check at any time you like.
If you right-click "HTCC Episodic" (or "Notes and Topics") in your favorites and select "Properties" you 'll see the "About feeds" link down at the bottom of the Properties box. That will take you to help on using feeds in IE.
  2. If you're using Firefox 2 or 3 as your browser, select (click one of these links) HTCC Episodic or Notes and Topics. You'll see the contents of the feed you selected, and there will be a option box inviting you to "Subscribe to this feed" using a reader of your choice. Choose "Live Bookmarks", and place the bookmark in a folder of your choice (Bookmarks Toolbar is a good one). Now go to the new bookmark and you'll see the recent headlines. The contents will be updated when new content is added, which is infrequent, but you can check at any time you like. [If you're using Firefox 2 you really should update to Firefox 3]
You may find it clumsy to use the native form of Live Bookmarks. The Feed Sidebar add-on will make reading feeds much easier. [more on Firefox extensions]
  3. Your browser's native feed reading may be too basic for you. If you want something that has more features, install a more capable feed reader. Assuming you have one installed, here's the general process for subscribing:
Right-click HTCC Episodic or Notes and Topics, and select "Copy Link Location" or "Copy Shortcut," depending on your browser. Paste the Location/Shortcut address in the "Subscribe" dialog of your stand-alone feed reader. No you can go to your new HTCC Episodic listing and view the feed contents.
